Hope Fest brings in thousands looking for a helping hand

TUCSON-For 21 years, Hope Fest has been serving the hungry and needy with the help of donations and volunteers.

One of the services offered here at the festival dental, and many had been waiting in line for hours just to get their teeth cleaned.

Susie Sanders said she camped out all night to get a place in line.

"I wanted to make sure that the dentist would see me today to get my teeth cleaned and everything," said Sanders.

Sanders said the last time she got a cleaning was nine years ago.

Without insurance, Sanders said she can't afford a cleaning.

"It was like two, three, four hundred dollars to get your teeth clean," said Sanders.

So Sanders is thankful for Hope Fest, an event that brought over 300 volunteers to work on teeth, and even more volunteers to help with giving out food, clothes, and hygiene products.

Thousands showed up for the services even going to doctors on site for checkups and got haircuts.

"Right now the economy is not the best, so it's kind of rough with two kids and just needed a little helping hand so we decided to see what it was about," said Tamara Hall.

These helping hands were brought together by the Hope Network, and they're always looking for volunteers.
