Jan. 8: Services going on Tuesday night

St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church
What: Special Evening Prayer Service
Date: Tuesday, January 8 Time: 7:00 p.m.

Some days grab our hearts and won't let go. On January 8, 2013, the two-year anniversary of the shootings in Tucson in which six were killed and fourteen others injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, St. Philip's will host a special Evening Prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Church.

We set aside time to focus on community building and healing framed in the context of the tragic events of January 8, 2011, and expanding to embrace all who are shocked and saddened by inexplicable violence including the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

The service offers periods for quiet reflection and celebration of the good parts of our lives together. The liturgy calls us to a responsive ministry of mutual support and comfort for each other. Pam Simon, an outreach coordinator for Congresswoman Giffords who was injured in the shootings, will be the homilist.

Music will be composed and led by Sheldon Curry, St. Philip's Composer-in-Residence, and will feature other local musicians. You are invited to be surprised by scripture, moved by ancient and newly composed music, and comforted by community. Join us to laugh, cry, think, sing, and pray. The public is welcome to attend. A freewill offering will be collected which will benefit St. Philip's mental illness ministry. For more information contact the Rev. Greg Foraker at 299-6421.Northminister Presbyterian Church
