TUCSON - Every week the Pima County Health Department is out visiting restaurants throughout the city of Tucson to make sure they are keeping the food they serve you safe. When an eatery falls short News 4 Tucson's Kitchen Cops lets the public know about it. The weekly segment also heralds the restaurants that do it right.
Every month, the county's health department conducts hundreds of inspections. Fortunately very few restaurants receive provisional or needs improvement ratings. In fact, a vast majority receive excellent ratings and this week Kitchen Cops recognizes three that have made keeping their restaurant safe for customers a top priority.
When a restaurant is inspected by the Pima County Health Department it is evaluated under 28 headings on it's evaluation report. Inspections cover everything from storing food safely and at the proper temperatures, to employee health and hygeine, prevention of food contamination and date marking. Ratings range from a provisional, needs improvement, good and excellent. Both Provisional and Good ratings require re-inspections within 10 days. In order to get an excellent rating a restaurant must receive zero critical violations.
This week Kitchen Cops highlight restaurants that have repeatedly scored the big "E". First on our list is Boston Market at 4405 N. 1st Avenue. The restaurant has had 6 excellent inspections since 2010. Sweet Tomatoes at 6202 E. Broadway has received 5 excellents since 2010. Rounding out the top three this week is Swensen's at 6444 N. Oracle that since 2010 has had 4 excellent ratings.
