Kitchen Cops: During frosty week restaurants leave cleanliness out in the cold

TUCSON - Pima County Health Inspectors may have had to bundle up this week, but that didn't stop them from making sure dining establishments are keeping the food they serve you safe.

Unfortunately two restaurants left cleanliness out in the cold.

JV Tacos Y Hotdogs, a mobile restaurant, received seven critical and four non critical violations.

Knives, tongs and other utensils were soiled and found in a soiled container. There was grease buildup on shelves. Excessive grease and grime build-up was found along the cook line. The owner was also cited for preparing food at home and selling it from the mobile restaurant. With more than 4 critical violations JV Tacos Y Hot Dogs was given a "Provisional" rating.

Rusty's Putney's, 2075 W. Grant Rd., received one critical and one non critical violation. Magnetic strips holding utensils were encrusted with food debris. Pasta strainers had heavy scale build-up. A soda gun was lined with a pink slimy build-up. The floor of the cook line and wait station had heavy debris build-up. Drawers and shelves in the kitchen were observed with product debris. All violations were corrected during the inspection earning Rusty's Putney's a "Good" rating.

Restaurants awarded excellent ratings include, Kingfisher at 2564 E. Grant Rd., Dirtbags at 1800 E. Speedway and special recognition for the Ritz Carlton at 15000 Secret Springs Dr., where all six of the resort's dining areas received excellent ratings.
