Tucson- Kitchen Cops were on the move this week with Pima County Health Inspectors evaluating a mobile restaurant with employees using a unique method of keeping their hands clean.
J Ro's Hot Dogs, parked on Sandario Road in Marana, received 4 critical violations. Water at a hand washing sink was brown with debris in it. Employees told the inspector on site that they washed their hands at a nearby auto parts store. Hot dogs buns were observed in a steamer, kept in a plastic grocery bag. Serving tongs were stored in a cup of tepid water. Serving utensils must be kept in containers at a minimum of 130-degrees. All violations were not corrected during the inspection earning J ro's Hotdogs a "Needs Improvement" rating.
Mayflower Chinese Restaurant, at 6462 N. Oracle, received 6 critical violations. Food items on the buffet line tested far below the required minimum of 130-degrees with lemon fish at 101-degrees and sweet and sour chicken at 94-degrees. Dish racks were observed with a black substance and food debris on them. A food prep cutting board had heavy dry and wet food debris on it. The inspector also noted flooring and wall damage throughout the facility. With more than five critical violations Mayflower Chinese Restaurant was given a "Provisional" rating.
Mayflower owner Celia Chee Yan Yang said "We took this very seriously. Some were corrected immediately. We will keep up our work to meet up to the standards. In the future we will take extra caution in food safety.
Restaurants earning excellent ratings include Red Lobster, Red Lobster, at 11695 N. Oracle, Pei Wei Asian Diner, at 845 E. University and The Irish Pub at 9155 E. Tanque Verde Rd.
