A place for wings in hot water with the health department for not having hot water and a local pizza joint with a thick crust that has nothing to do with pizza.
Sgt. Pepperoni's Pizza, at 2860 W. Ina, received seven critical and three non-critical violations. An employee was observed sprinkling ingredients on to a customers salad with their bare hands. A food slicer and stand mixer had encrusted food debris on them. Food items were not properly date marked. Non critical violations included citings for heavily soiled kitchen equipment, floors and shelves. Uncovered containers were found in a walk-in cooler and raw chicken was found thawing in a sink. With five critical violations not corrected with the inspector on site, Sgt. Pepperoni's Pizza was given a "Provisional" rating.
Wingstop #975, at 1710 W. Valencia Rd., received two critical violations. After observing an employee wash their hands, the Pima County Health Inspector discovered the hot water tested below the required 110 degrees. It was not known at the time of the inspections how long hot water had not been supplied to the handsink locations. Because the violation was not corrected during the inspection, Wingstop #975 was given a "Needs Improvement" rating.
Manager Frank Zapata said, "We are taking care of the problem as we speak. The failure of our hot water system is the result of a faulty valve which we are taking care of immediately."
Restaurants awarded excellent ratings include, El Polla Loco, at 3781 W. Ina Rd., Chicago Bar, at 5954 E. Speedway and Golden Dragon Restaurant at 4704 E. Sunrise Dr..
