EUGENE, OR - It was every bit the exciting race experts anticipated. In the end, Lawi Lalang would end his Arizona Wildcat career with a standing ovation.
Lalang finished runner-up in the men's 1,500m on Saturday, with a time of 3:39.13. Oregon's Mac Fleet won the race in 3:39.09 for a difference of four one-hundredths of a second.
"I did all my races with everything I got, "said Lalang after the race. "I have nothing to regret and I'm really happy with my career at Arizona."
Lalang captured the men's 5,000m championship on Friday, his eighth NCAA title between cross country and track and field. He would narrowly miss number nine to end his career. Lawi Lalang holds two collegiate records and five Wildcat records. He was also the Pac-12 scholar athlete of the year.
Lawi Lalang tells News 4 Tucson he will now pursue a professional running career, returning to Tucson to train before heading overseas.
