TUCSON - Police have arrested Sonny Jean on charges of second degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with a Lee Street shooting.
Detectives say Jean shot and killed 28-year-old Victor Garcia Thursday night at his home just after 10 p.m. Thursday.
Jean also shot and critically injured a 24-year-old who was also in the home. The shooting happened at the 1200 block of E. Lee St.
Neighbor Lila Shtull can see the home where the shooting happened from her balcony. "And we heard what sounded like 3 fast gunshots, and then a little pause, and then more shots," says Shtull, who was home with her roommates when the violence broke out.
"We're happy that we were not out, that's definitely something that we're thankful for that were were all inside when it happened," she says.
The area is surrounded by U of A students like Shtull, who say the sounds they heard last night, is not common to this neighborhood.
"Well, a first for me at least, I haven't lived here that long, but a first since I've lived here," says Hallie Wine, another neighbor.
Those that live within earshot weren't the only ones alerted by the noise. "We immediately saw ambulances, helicopters, police officers," recalls Shtull.
The Department of Homeland Security also was on the scene. Homicide detectives spent the entire night canvassing the area, conducting interviews, and collecting evidence.
