Tucson - A group of 7th graders from Rincon Vista Middle School, in the Vail district, have their hands full of toys! Inspired by one of Kristi's Kids, they're gathering gifts for Lizzie's Loot and "Paying it Forward."
Lizzie Bell came up with the concept after her own hospital visits, to battle a rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia. The goal of Lizzie's Loot? To lift the spirit of every hospitalized child by giving them their very own toy or stuffed animal.
It's such a great idea, the 7th graders decided to gather as many donations as they can for their service project. Principal, Lydia Crain tells Kristi's Kids, their motivation is easy. "Kids get excited about helping kids."
One of the students, Bryce Souders says, "It's just important that people need to know that other people out there need stuff more than we do." A sentiment echoed by fellow student, Melanie Grudinschi. She says, it's "not always about us and that one person can definitely make a difference."
The Rincon Vista middle schoolers have gathered hundreds of toys and stuffed animals. They also wrote a get well card, to Lizzie Bell and the other children getting medical help.
