TUCSON - A man who was shooting at vehicles and at a Pima County Sheriff's Patrol Deputy's car is behind bars. Sheriff's spokesman Jesus Banuelos says, they've arrested 26 year old Michael Albert Mesaros. He's charged with attempted second degree murder, criminal damage and weapons charges.
Banuelos says they arrived at the Tierra Vida apartments at Magee and La Cholla at 2:00am after several 911 calls were made reporting gunfire.
Investigators say Mesaros intentionally fired his weapon at the first patrol vehicle to arrive. The vehicle was struck once in the hood the deputies were unharmed.
Elizabeth Valencia is one of the residents who heard the shots ring out, she says there were about 10 shots. "Last night was shocking, I don't really feel safe here anymore after that."
Valencia was among those who called 9-1-1 and she even saw the shooter crouching between the vehicles. "He kicked a car and the alarm went off."
Valencia says she didn't recognize Mesaros, "I've never seen him before, but a guy who lives here says he (Mesaros) lives here with his dad."
The apartment complex sent out a letter to all 200 units. It explains to residents "An unauthorized resident fired a weapon several times within our apartment community, causing damage to property but thankfully no injuries."
Valencia says you just never know, "It's a gated community and that happens inside the gate."
The letter also reminds residents to be aware of their surroundings, and to report suspicious activity to police and to the management.
