NOGALES, AZ - After using jalapenos for cover, a 50-year-old truck driver was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle more than 2,400 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa cargo facility at Nogales referred a Mexican national for additional inspection of the tractor-trailer he was driving. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers found 105 bales of marijuana, worth more than $1.2 million, hidden among a shipment of jalapenos.
The drugs and truck were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
