CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Casa Grande man has been struck and killed by a freight train at a city intersection.
The name of the 49-year-old victim is being withheld until his family can be notified.
Casa Grande police told the Casa Grande Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1eKBNnd ) that the Union Pacific train was going about 50 mph when the man apparently walked in front of it Thursday.
The conductor told police that he blew his whistle in an effort to get the man's attention and slowed the train, but it was too late to avoid the collision.
Police say the incident still is under investigation and they don't yet know if it's a suicide.
They say it's also unclear if the man was wearing headphones that might have prevented him from hearing the train.
