PHOENIX (AP) - A man is in custody following a ground search mounted in Phoenix after a driver rammed a state Department of Public Safety officer's patrol car.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves says the man believed to be the driver was taken in custody after being spotted sitting in a warehouse district where the search was underway.
According to Graves, the incident began Monday morning when the DPS officer on Interstate 17 pulled over a pickup with a suspended license plate.
The DPS spokesman says the driver reversed his truck and struck the officer's car. The officer fired at the pickup but it left the scene.
It was found about a mile away in the warehouse district.
Graves says the officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of neck and back pain.
