Massachusetts shutdown impact

(WHDH) The partial federal government shutdown affects landmarks in and around Boston.

Official tours will be closed at several locations, including the USS Constitution, the Bunker Hill monument, The JFK Library, the Faneuil Hall visitor center, and the Minute Man National Historic Park.

"We came all the way from Kansas and Missouri. This was going to be one of the highlights of our trip and it makes no sense to us. The government, it's their responsibility to pass the budget. It is the law. Why didn't they," one tourist said.

Federal agencies and organizations in the city are set to close beginning Tuesday or have the employees go on furloughs.

According to the Globe, Governor Deval Patrick said he spoke with President Obama and other governors.

The governor said the shutdown is "an avoidable and foolish thing."

Some departments and agencies will remain open, which include:

Federal courts, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and hospitals.

Mail will still be delivered. The department of homeland security will continue to operate, as will prisons, and the TSA.
