TUCSON - The Tucson Police Officer's Association will be holding a memorial for Ivan the K9 on Thursday.

Ivan was shot and killed in the line of duty Dec. 12 during a carjacking incident, Tucson Police Sgt. Chris Widmer said.

An officer pulled over a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car when the suspect began to flee. The officer and Ivan were chasing the suspect through the Sam Hughes neighborhood when police say the suspect shot the dog.

The officer returned fire and shot and killed the suspect, Widmer said.

Ivan's memorial will be held at the Memorial Plaza in front of the main police station at 270 S. Stone Avenue.
