GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Maricopa County authorities say a dog that went missing from a boarding facility where numerous dogs were found dead last month was apparently hit and killed by a vehicle.
The search for the dog named Valor began two weeks ago at Green Acre Dog Boarding. The dog's owners were told he had run away.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and dozens of volunteers searched until Saturday when a cyclist reported finding the dog about three miles from the boarding facility.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the dog was positively identified through a microchip.
The boarding facility is being investigated for possible criminal charges related to the deaths of 20 dogs two week ago. The animals died of apparent heat exhaustion when one dog chewed through the air conditioner's power cord.
