TUCSON - A jury in the trial of a man accused of shooting a Tucson Police officer reached their verdict Wednesday.
Richard Mendoza was charged with shooting Sergeant Robert Carpenter during a burglary in 2012.
Mendoza was found guilty on the burglary and weapons charges, but not guilty of the aggravated assault charges.
Tucson Police Sergeant Robert Carpenter was shot in the head in the area of the burglary. Prosecuting attorneys argued Mendoza shot Carpenter while hiding near the home.
Although Mendoza admitted to the burglary, his attorneys said police could not place him in the area at the time of the shooting.
