PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a mother is being held on child abuse charges after her 2-year-old son spent the night alone outside in a Phoenix backyard amid intermittent rains.
Police say the boy, Damian, was found by the home's residents Saturday morning in their yard.
The child appeared to be in good condition and is with Child Protective Services.
Police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump says Melynie Marie Susunkewa had left a party Friday night with the child.
Susunkewa told officers she was upset and had consumed several alcoholic beverages.
Susunkewa says she jumped several fences before blacking out for several hours.
Police say she got a ride home and slept until Saturday afternoon, at which point she called her mother to ask about Damian's whereabouts.
Susunkewa was booked at Fourth Avenue Jail.
