TUCSON - Will the morning clouds burn off in time for storms to pop?

According to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish, scattered storms are possible today if clouds start to break. Like yesterday, storms could be capable of gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. For that reason, today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at a 5 out of 10.

If cloud cover hangs tough through the early afternoon, storm chances should be diminished some.

Drier air filters in from the north tomorrow, as high pressure repositions over southern Utah. After a chance of isolated storms Wednesday, most of southern Arizona see a dry Thursday afternoon. There's a chance of isolated storms popping up Thursday near the New Mexico state line. Highs the next few days should be at or near 100 degrees with storm chances fading.

Monsoon moisture returns heading into the weekend, as will the chance of daily isolated storms.
