NOGALES - A Mexican national was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of smuggling unreported cash into Mexico, agents said.
Officers checking Mexico-bound vehicles stopped a Ford truck for further inspection, US Customs and Border Protection spokesman Joe Agosttini said in a release.
A canine alerted to the presence of unreported cash hidden in a nightstand, Agosttini said. The suspect was arrested. The truck and cash were seized.
Nogales Port Director Guadalupe Ramirez says operations like this are important.
"These operations prevent weapons, ammunition and unreported currency from making their way to the groups who are trafficking drugs from Mexico, into our nation," Ramirez said.
