TUCSON - For more than five months (or 159 days) the Kristi's Kids, News 4 Tucson Lifesaver campaign has been spreading the word about drowning prevention. To keep you "tuned in," our partners have been giving away pool fences, swim and CPR lessons and family 4-paks to Legoland EVERY MONTH.
Every Thursday, since the start of April, we've aired live, drowning prevention reports.
Since January 1st, in Pima County, one child has drowned and eight have nearly drowned. The drowning was in a bathtub, June 12th. 10 month old Winter Azure. Her Tucson babysitter, Zada Davis, has been charged with 2nd degree murder.
As we wrap up this Lifesaver season, a reminder that children can drown at any time... almost anywhere. It's not just a summer problem.
Local kids have died in swimming pools, bathtubs, buckets, toilet bowls, dog bowls, etc. All it takes is a couple of inches of water (if a child's off balance) and no one paying attention.
A much deserved THANK YOU to our Lifesaver partners: Pool Guard of Tucson, Sunshine Swim School, The Southern Arizona chapter of the American Red Cross, Rural Metro Fire, Tucson Fire, Safe Kids Tucson and Legoland.
We'll do it again next year!
