(NBC NEWS) - Thousands of New Yorkers are still without power more than two weeks after Hurricane Sandy rocked the region.

President Obama on Thursday visited the communities in New York City hardest hit by the storm and promised help.

"We are going to make sure we stay here as along as people need that immediate help. That's FEMA's primary task," the president promised residents.

Meanwhile, the New York Attorney General has opened an investigation into two utility companies for their failure to restore power to customers.
