Douglas, Ariz. - CBP officers arrested two women yesterday for attempting to smuggle approximately $216,000 in marijuana across Port of Douglas.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested the women in two separate incidents. A CBP narcotics detention canine alerted officers to the vehicle of a 31-year-old Mexican national where they uncovered 228 pounds of marijuana hidden in the Nissan SUV's gas tank and tires.
Later that day, officers arrested a 36-year-old Mexican national for having about 133 packages of marijuana found inside the dashboard, doors, seats, floor, bumper and truck of her Ford Sedan.
CBP officers seized the vehicles and drugs. The two women were then turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
