Part-time Catalina Foothills HS teacher fired

TUCSON - A Catalina Foothills part-time teacher is no longer employed by the district after being busted for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The district says 24-year-old Alden Young was a part-time high school teacher who taught speech and debate. He was the coach for the last three years.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Young and a 15-year-old girl were at the top of Alvernon Way after 1:00 a.m. on March 20th.

Sgt. Gerard Moretz says there were many red flags when the patrol deputy found the couple, such as the vehicle being parked in a secluded area. In the vehicle, a 24-year-old man, the female passenger under 18.

Sgt. Moretz says, "The adult male minimized his knowledge and familiarity with the girl and pretended as though he didn't know her age as well."

The patrol deputy claims, "The teenager says she had snuck out from her house and it was a mutual agreement between the two to meet."

Young denied he was employed, and the teenager lied to deputies about her age. By the end of the investigation Sgt. Moretz says, "This man is an employee of the school. A school where she attends, and he definitely knows her from school and is very well aware of her age."

The report does say the two were fully clothed, and the deputy did not believe there had been any sexual or physical contact between the two before he arrived.

Young is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sgt. Moretz explained why, "Any adult who is engaged in any activity or allowing an activity that's contrary to what's best for someone who is under age." The teenage girl is charged with false reporting and curfew violation.

Alden Young is scheduled to appear in court next month. News 4 Tucson reached out to Young and he was unavailable.
