TUCSON - The Pima Community College Board of Governors voted to start a national search for the school's next chancellor.
The other option would have been to keep Acting Chancellor Suzanne Miles in the position permanently.
The board was split 3-2, with David Longoria and Scott Stewart casting dissenting votes to stick with Miles.
Miles can still apply for the position, but she said she does not know if she will.
The board took public comments for over an hour at their meeting Wednesday night.
Supporters of a search say the school looks bad if they do not even look outside the organization.
Some people think the lack of permanent leadership will be bad for the school in the meantime.
Miles went to school at the University of Arizona and has family in Tucson. That is another reason some want to skip the national search.
