Pedestrian killed on the southside identified

TUCSON - An elderly man died Sunday after being struck by a pickup on the southside.

The accident happened at 7:58 a.m., near the intersection of 22nd Street and Longfellow Avenue.

Tucson Police identified the 80-year-old as Hai Ting.

Investigators say he was crossing 22nd Street at Longfellow when he stepped into the westbound lane of traffic, in front of the pickup.

Ting was taken to the hospital, but died from his injuries.

The truck driver and his passenger were not injured.

Drugs and Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

No citations were issued.
