Pet foods recalled for salmonella contamination

FREMONT, Neb. - A natural pet products company is voluntarily recalling some of their dry pet food for salmonella contamination.

Natura Pet Products confirms the Michigan Department of Agriculture detected salmonella in one pet food bag during a recent random testing.

Select bags of California Natural, EVO, HealthWise and Innova pet foods are part of the recall. Check these links for a details on specific products, including bag size and UPC codes.

There have been no reported animal or human health issues associated with these products and the Fremont, Neb.-based company says they are recalling these products solely as a precautionary measure. Pets infected with salmonella may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea or vomiting. Humans may contract salmonella by handling contaminated pet food or interacting with infected animals.

"We want to assure you, our valued customers, that we are more committed than ever to animal and human safety. We have fully investigated and identified the cause of this incident. Our production is ongoing, and you can continue to feed any Natura products outside of this incident with confidence," states the company's website.

This is the first recall in Natura Pet Products' 21-year history.
