Phoenix carjacking suspect shot because he refused to stop

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an officer fatally shot a carjacking suspect because the man refused to stop trying to drive away after a police armored car rammed a stolen SUV.

According to a police affidavit, the officer believed bystanders' lives were in danger.

The affidavit says the suspect earlier Tuesday morning pointed a handgun at a detective following the suspect when he was in a stolen truck.

The suspect was shot in the SUV after he drove out of a downtown parking garage where he and an alleged accomplice stole the SUV after driving from northwest Phoenix while being tailed by police.

Court records identify the alleged accomplice as 23-year-old Jessica Leanne Hicks of Phoenix. She faces charges of armed robbery and first-degree murder.

Hicks doesn't have a lawyer.
