Phoenix teen accused of fatally shooting bicyclist

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a teenager is in custody in connection with last month's fatal shooting of bicyclist in northwest Phoenix.

Phoenix police said Monday that the 17-year-old boy is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and misconduct involving a weapon.

They say he's currently on probation for a previous felony conviction.

The Associated Press is not releasing the teen's name because he's a juvenile.

Police say 51-year-old Arnold Hamel was found June 27 lying on a roadway with several gunshot wounds.

Authorities say a pickup truck pulled up to Hamel and someone inside the truck fired at him about 2:40 a.m.

Hamel was taken to a Phoenix hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the teen and Hamel had some sort of brief argument before the shooting.
