Pilot survives plane crash in Southern Arizona

SAN SIMON, Ariz.- An 80-year-old man survived a plane crash in San Simon Saturday evening.

Cochise County Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas says around 6 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a plane down in an orchard field in the 1600 block of 3rd Street.

Deputies found a single engine, experimental aircraft.

The pilot was airlifted to UAMC with facial injuries.

Investigators say the pilot was enroute to Las Cruses, NM from Phoenix and had stopped in San Simon to refuel.

Upon takeoff the plane snagged a power line and went down.
