CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in Pinal County say a man stabbed his mother to death and also stabbed her sister at a home outside Casa Grande before a neighbor hit him several times with a shovel to stop the attack.
The sheriff's office says they found the neighbor standing over 38-year-old Joseph Cain Cecil when they arrived. Cecil was later arrested on murder and other charges.
His 65-year-old mother was found inside the home and her 63-year-old sister outside, where she was being attacked when the neighbor intervened. Ronna Thomas was pronounced dead at a Casa Grande hospital and her sister was flown to a Phoenix hospital. Her name and conditions weren't released.
Babeu praised the neighbor, saying if the man hadn't taken action both women would be dead.
