Police searching for Kmart burglars

TUCSON - The search is on for three men who police say burglarized Kmart on Tucson's east side early Monday morning.

Tucson Police say the trio broke the glass window in the garden center to get into the store. The men, who were wearing dark clothing, made their way to the jewelry counter where they smashed glass and took some items. According to Sgt. Maria Hawke, a cleaning crew was inside the store at the time of the break-in but was never threatened by the men. Surveillance video revealed the men did not have any weapons, Hawke said.

Armando Loya heard about the break-in early Monday but decided to do his shopping at the east side store anyway, "I just feel that you know people have to go on with their life. Like I said, you know you can't be afraid to go into stores you can't be afraid to go out and about. You gotta live your life, can't be sheltered and scared."

Hawke said there were two to three other attempted robberies early Monday morning but she could not confirm their exact locations. It's unknown at this point if the attempted robberies and the break-in at the Kmart are connected.
