PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities continue to search for pipe bombs a New York man claimed to have dumped in a rural Pennsylvania waterway before he set out to kill two national TV commentators over their Jodi Arias trial coverage.
David Lee Simpson, of Bath, N.Y., is jailed in Phoenix on five felony counts related to Twitter death threats against Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell, both hosts of shows on Turner Broadcasting's HLN network who regularly covered the nearly five-month trial. Investigators say Simpson also threatened a Phoenix woman via Twitter.
Bath police investigator Heather Barry says bomb-sniffing dogs alerted on possible explosives residue in his vehicles, so they are taking his pipe bomb comments seriously.
She says authorities in Athens Borough, Pa., about 170 miles north of Allentown, are looking for the explosives. Simpson doesn't yet have an attorney.
