DOUGLAS, Ariz. - The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona received an unwanted donation, discovered Friday at its Douglas Food Bank warehouse.
An estimated 140 plus pounds of marijuana were uncovered in large bins of butternut squash.
It happened as volunteers passed out the squash to people at the food bank.
Bill Carnegie, CEO of the Community Food Bank says, "We immediately contacted the authorities who came and did some investigative work and took the drugs away, but it's kind of embarrassing for the food bank to have something like that go out on one of our trucks."
Carnegie says there are now plans to change the procedure for inspecting produce.
Investigators are trying to back-track to find out where the bins with the bales of marijuana may have come from.
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona receives food not only from Mexico, but several states in the southwest as well.
