Reporter- Monica Garcia

The love of storytelling started for Monica at a very young age. While most kids were playing jump rope during recess, Monica was telling ghost stories to childhood friends. While the type of story has shifted over the years, Monica's passion for creating and invoking emotion has lived on.

Raised in a small town in Kansas, and then later moving to the El Paso, Texas-Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, Monica graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. Living in a border town gave her some life experiences that molded her into the person and reporter she is today and gives her a unique perspective on many issues facing Arizona.
Monica started her career in journalism in the nation's capital at WRC, the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. She was a production assistant and field producer. Most memorably, she helped produce Pope Benedict XVI's first visit to the United States in 2008.

She moved on to San Diego to KNSD, another NBC affiliate, where she was a field producer. Living in San Diego, Monica's love for the culture of border life flourished. Most recently, Monica was a morning reporter at Union Tribune San Diego TV. She covered everything from San Diego Comic Con to the 2013 to the resignation of former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. Monica was also the Executive Producer and Host of a Latino-themed English language show that highlighted the colorful lifestyle of the Baja California region.

If you don't catch Monica on Tucson Today, you may see her jogging, being active in the local Latino Community or just indulging in Tucson's wide variety of authentic Mexican food. Have a story idea? Email her at
