Rhode Island House passes gay marriage bill
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With an overwhelming majority of the vote, the Rhode Island House has passed legislation to allow gay marriage.
The vote of 51-19 came after emotional debate on religion, civil rights and the nature of marriage.
The bill now moves to the Senate, where it has an uncertain future.
Rhode Island is the only state in New England, right now, that doesn't allow same-sex couples to wed.
