TUCSON - News 4 Tucson is uncovering more details about a road rage incident involving a Tucson police officer. Eric Santos is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with serious physical injury and one count of driving under the influence. There was also a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear.
News 4 Tucson, uncovered a long history of traffic offenses, driving with a suspended license, excessive speeding and DUI against Santos. It's all documented in court records.
The road rage incident began Wednesday night when the off-duty officer merged onto Aviation Highway and nearly collided with a pick-up truck driven by Eric Santos. Police say Santos followed the officer and rammed into his vehicle numerous times. The chase went on all the way to the northwest side. The officer called 9-1-1 before turning left at Thornydale and Cortaro Farms road running a red light. Santos followed and slammed into the vehicle Ashley Stock was driving.
There are reports from police officers, Santos was combative when officers tried to arrest him after he collided with Stock's car. She's remains in the hospital with spinal injuries.
We're told the off duty police officer had in his car, a police radio and a weapon. Sources say he contacted his Sergeant as the incident began to unfold. The Sgt reportedly directed him to call 9-1-1.
The question many, including Ashley Stock, are asking is why did the officer wait so long to call 911? So far we haven't been able to get that question answered.
