Saturday afternoon monsoon update

TUCSON - Storms struggle to get going so far this afternoon but should still pick up this evening.

We still have plenty of moisture in place across Southern Arizona to get storms going today, however, we are lacking some of the instability we had on Friday. As a result, thunderstorm activity is taking a little longer to get going.

A few storms may still develop into the evening hours but they aren't expected to be as organized as yesterday. The best chance for storms to fire up will be in the higher elevations south and east of Tucson before making their way west into the valley floors.

The biggest threat with storms today will still be heavy soaking rains that may lead flooding issues especially for areas hit hard yesterday.

The weak upper level disturbance that was supposed to move through today has slowed down and looks to be more of a trigger for Sunday storms. This disturbance will give us the added uplift we need for an active monsoon Sunday.

Daytime highs will remain near average for late July topping out in the 99-102 degree range well into next week.
