Sentencing set for Mesa man in boy's beating death

PHOENIX (AP) - Sentencing is set Monday for a Mesa man who pleaded guilty to fatally beating his live-in girlfriend's 4-year-old son because the boy had soiled himself.

Jorge Alberto Busso Jr. had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted child abuse in the December 2010 death of Ramon Alejandro Haro Colin.

Busso's plea agreement calls for a sentence ranging from 17 to 20 years.

Authorities say Busso admitted that he punished the boy for soiling himself by using a belt and his hands to strike the child's face, back, buttocks and forearms.

Busso is also accused of causing the 4-year-old's head to strike a wall several times by pushing him into a corner during the beating.
