WITTMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Responders braved fast-flowing floodwater Tuesday to rescue a woman in a minivan in a small community on the Phoenix area's northwestern outskirts.
Helicopter news video aired by KNXV-TV (www.abc15.com ) showed a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office helicopter land in Wittman in response to a call about a woman inside a stranded vehicle.
Crew members got out and the pilot, later identified as Sgt. Wes Kueffer (keefer), waded into the muddy water and gingerly reached the white minivan as the rising water reached its hood.
Kueffer opened a door, reached inside and helped the unidentified woman out as the observer, Deputy Joe Sudella, stood ready to assist them.
Kueffer and Sudella then slowly walked the woman through the water to dry ground where she was wrapped in a blanket.
