Sizzling heat is on the way

TUCSON - It has been nearly two years since Tucson hit 110 degrees, and 18 years since 3 days in a row of 110 degree temperatures were strung together.

Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued for all of Southeastern Arizona, with the exception of Cochise county, from Friday through Sunday evening.

Highs in Tucson should remain a few degrees below record highs, but with projected highs between 110-113, this is very dangerous heat.

According to Meteorologist Matt Brode, the strength and location of the high pressure, and the fact that we are among the longest days of the year, are the primary factors contributing to this heat-wave.

A positive consequence of the upcoming heat is moisture will creep in to the region around the area of high pressure.

Enough moisture should be available for some isolated storms in Cochise County as soon as the weekend, and possibly a major uptick to the monsoon region wide early next week.
