FLORENCE - A multiagency task force formed one month ago has arrested 30 people, seized over five tons of marijuana and recovered 18 stolen vehicles.
The West Desert Task Force was officially formed on January 16, 2012, with members from the Border Patrol, ICE, and the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
On February 14, the task force identified and removed a known scout living on a hill in the West Desert, according to a news release from Pinal County Sheriff's Office. The scout, who was in the country illegally from Mexico, relayed information on law enforcement efforts to smugglers in the area.
Task force members discovered several scout camps along the hill, and seized equipment including binoculars, radio chargers, cell phones, battery-charging solar panels, clothes, and other camping items, the release states.
"I'm grateful for the cooperation we've seen with our local ICE: Homeland Security Investigations and Border Patrol agents," Sheriff Paul Babeu stated in the release. "No agency can make this happen alone."
