Some businesses on Oracle hit hard by storm damage

TUCSON - When Sunday's summer storm knocked out the lights near the Tucson Mall local businesses lost more than power, they lost patrons and profits.

Three days later, the power is back on for most of those businesses, and places like Famous Dave's are ready to serve up their legendary barbecue sandwiches.

And they'll need to serve a lot of sandwiches to make up for all the losses they've racked up over the past three days. "We were beating last year's sales, so we were sorry to see that we lost Sunday night, all day Monday and all day Tuesday," said Lon Chaney, Area Director for Famous Dave's.

That's a big hit for the restaurant. "I would say it's anywhere between $20,000 - $35,000 in sales," Chaney said.

Across Oracle at Paradise Café, it's a different story. They only lost power for a few hours Sunday night and business is already back to normal. "Because of the closure on Wetmore, we were down a bit, but it wasn't a huge hit to us," said Kristen Newbold, Paradise Café Regional Sales Manager.
