Men preferred to workout with hip hop hits from Eminem, Kanye West and Jay-Z, while women prefer to get moving with dance tracks from Ke$ha, David Guetta and Bruno Mars. Spotify workout playlists show that January 8th was the day that Americans headed back to the gym.
Top ten US workout tracks on Spotify:
1. Die Young by Ke$ha
2. Scream & Shout by will.i.am
3. Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
4. Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia
5. Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris
6. I Cry by Flo Rida
7. Clique by Kanye West
8. Titanium by David Guetta
9. Gangnam Style by Psy
10. Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars
"Music and exercise make for a winning combination. Our scientific research has demonstrated how exercisers lock into the rhythmical elements of music, which gives their workouts a significant boost through a process known as entrainment - in essence, the body gradually aligns its movement patterns to the musical beat. This also reduces perceptions of effort, lifts mood and ultimately results in people sticking to their exercise routine," said Dr. Costas Karageorghis from Brunel University in London.
