PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona utility has given final approval for a $1 million donation in cash and services to help produce the 2015 Super Bowl in Glendale.

The Salt River Project's board of directors voted 13-1 Monday in favor of the sponsorship, with director Stephen Williams opposed.

General Manager Mark Bonsall told the directors that while the nonprofit Super Bowl Host Committee will receive $1 million in value from the deal, the actual cost to SRP is closer to $375,000.

The committee is a liason between the NFL and the host region.

SRP will provide $225,000 cash, $575,000 of in-kind services and $200,000 in electricity generated by solar power for the game.

Some consumer advocates question the need to help the NFL produce its marquee event.
