St. Gregory students win top honors in algebra contest

TUCSON - Two students at St. Gregory College Preparatory Middle School tied for first place in the statewide Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics 2013 Algebra Contest.

Lee Costich and Zara Dabdoub, 7th grade students, tied for first place in the state and Caroline Zlaket, also in the 7th grade, tied for 5th in the state.

St. Gregory College Preparatory School is an independent school for students in grades six through twelve.

The competition is open to all students enrolled in a first year Algebra class and are not currently taking a more advanced mathematics course. A total of 729 students took the May 7 test, which included 50 multiple choice questions and 10 short answer questions.

The test is voluntary and not associated with standardized testing.
