TUCSON - A mid-week Monsoon ramp up.
An inverted trough over Sonora surges moisture northward, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This feature leads to scattered storms today, especially along the International Border. Prime time for metro storms comes tonight, as the atmosphere becomes more favorable for development.
A few storms may be severe later today, capable of damaging winds and locally heavy rain.
The best chance for storms across southern Arizona arrives tomorrow, with locally heavy rainfall the primary threat. Another round of scattered storms is possible Friday. Saturday through Labor Day features a slight chance of isolated storms and highs in the mid to upper 90's.
