Sunnyside falls in semifinals; will play for third place at World Series

KIRKLAND, WA - It was doomed from the start. Pennsylvania scored eight runs in the first two innings and Sunnyside couldn't overcome the deficit in an 11-1 loss Friday evening. The game ended due to the 10-run-rule after six innings.

Pennsylvania ripped 13 hits with 11 RBI's as nine girls tallied a hit during the contest. Sunnyside managed only two hits the entire game. Morgan Ryan and Maddie Uschock combined for six strikeouts and no earned runs in the win.

Pennsylvania scored three runs in the first inning before adding five more in the second for the 8-0 lead. Amaya Turner managed to get Sunnyside on the board in the bottom of the third, but the scoring would stop there. Pennsylvania took the 10-run lead in the top of the sixth off an RBI double to left field. Sunnyside had to narrow the deficit to below 10 in the bottom half of the inning to avoid the 10-run-rule. They went three up, three down.

Sunnyside will advance to the 3rd-place game on Saturday at 11am. They face the same Italy team they met in pool play. Italy won that game 6-5.

The championship game will be at 2pm Saturday, live on ESPN News. Pennsylvania will meet MexiCali for the rights to be crowned world champion.
