TUCSON - Tucson Police have arrested two of the three thieves they say are responsible for a midtown Walgreens theft. This goes back to November when a trio of thieves walked out of the store with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. They got away from the scene at First and Grant in a U-Haul.
After the News 4 Tucson Crime Trackers showed the security camera video, viewers picked up the phone and called in tips.
Callers identified Onika Diaz as one of the suspects. Detective Olga Ramirez with Tucson Police says, "With that name I was able to make comparisons with records checks I completed with that name and I matched the photo the Walgreen's photo." That happened back in December. Then, four days ago, TPD arrested the 27-year-old Diaz and charged her with theft.
The following day officers picked up Tyandra Coleman, the other woman seen on the surveillance video. It was Detective Ramirez who identified the 24-year-old Coleman from this flier where she was wanted for trafficking in stolen property.
Diaz also confirmed it. Once they were arrested they told investigators they both have drug addictions. Both women have been released from jail.
Walgreen's declined to comment on camera regarding the investigation but a representative did tell News 4 Tucson the company appreciates the efforts by police and the community to capture the suspects.
