TUCSON-It isn't the first time Starr Gems, Inc. has been tagged, but it's definitely the first time they get an apology letter and ten dollars from the tagger.

"A clean white building or off white building looks like a fresh canvas for them," said Shawna Lobmiller with Starr Gems, Inc. "It was pretty large. It covered a large surface and also on our roll door."

Lobmiller spotted the graffiti Thursday morning last week and the apology note Tuesday.

"He had a change of heart for some reason. Who knows, but I think it's a good thing," said Lobmiller.

The business has been here for 45 years, and has had its number of run-ins with taggers but never like this one.

"It's wrong because people do a lot of work to paint buildings and then people just tag it up and ruin it," said Keara.

The note says:

"DEAR LOCAL SHOP--I THOUGHT YOU WERE ABANDONED...

SORRY FOR TAGGING YOUR WALL

HERE'S 10 DOLLARS

-SMOG

P.S. REALLY AM SORRY."

"It's a nice thing to see somebody do," said Paul Shepard, a customer.

Krisztina Racz, a regular customer said more should have been done.

"It's nice that they noticed the mistake and are trying to make it better, but I would have come in person said sorry and cleaned up myself," said Racz.

Instead, Lobmiller cleaned it up using plenty of stain blocker, paint thinner, and paint removal.

It cost 30 dollars to get it off the wall.

They hope this serves as an example to other taggers to have a conscience.
